Kate Nicholls speaks at Resolution Foundation event

Our CEO Kate Nicholls joined an event this week where the Resolution Foundation launched a report, which looked into why firms use flexible contracts.

A discussion took place on the need to ensure that people are not on exploitative contracts and that everyone that wants one should have the right to a stable contact. However, the panel broadly agreed that workers should also not be unduly restricted from being on a flexible or variable contract when it is in the interest of the worker.

Kate made the point that as a sector hospitality is a high user of flexible contracts, however, this is largely driven by workers making the request for flexible hours. She said that when used responsibly, flexible contracts are overwhelmingly beneficial for employees that want them and act as a key route into work for many. However, she also made clear that any abuse of these contracts is unacceptable, and it is right that exploitative practices are stamped out.
